Can someone explain (or point me to an explanation of) the different kinds of tournament play?  I don't play airball or xball or that fancy stuff but I do find it VERY entertaining.

I attended a couple tournaments in Maryland and they had 3, 5, and 7 man teams, and noticed there were a lot of different rules.  One of the fields had people screaming/coaching up and down the sidelines during the match, LOTS of yelling, but the other two fields weren't like that.  I've also heard that sometimes players are allowed to ramp, but other times it strictly semi-auto and capped ROF.

I've seen NPPL, NXL, etc, but am clueless as to what they mean.  I figure if I understand what's going on I may enjoy it even more.

Thanks.

I will try to explain some things.......

1) They are played with 3, 5, 7, and/or 10 man teams

2) When you NPPL, PSP, EXP, and so on are Leagues

3) Each league sets it's own rules, That is why you see coaching at one, or ramping at another.......There are no "unified" set of rules for tournament play....

Thanks!

Sounds like it can get pretty complicated.  There was an EPL 3-man tournament at Wannaplay on the 15th and 16th, right?  I went to the EPL rule book:

http://www.eplseries.com/Microsoft%20Word%20-%20EPL%20Point%20Rules2009.pdf

So according to this rule someone can coach from outside the net, as long as they don't obviously look like a team member?

Quote
2. The Game
2.1. Coaching
2.1.1. No person appearing on the roster of a team may employ an electronic or mechanical
device to communicate with any other person during any of their team’s points or matches.
2.1.1.1 The team of any person violating this rule will forfeit the match during which the infraction
occurred.

Rate of fire:
Quote
8.3.6.1. May fire no more than one paintball within 95 milliseconds (10.5 bps).

So semi auto, three round burst and ramping are allowed if I'm reading this correctly:
Quote
8.3.6.2. May fire no more than three shots per press and release of the trigger, and no more than
three shots between presses of the trigger.*30 A player who carries a marker onto the field of play
that fires more than three shots per press and release of the trigger, or more than three shots
between two presses of the trigger, will receive a gross penalty and a minor suspension.
8.3.6.3. May fire no more than one shot per press and release of the trigger unless
8.3.6.3.1. The trigger has been pressed and released four times, *31 and
8.3.6.3.2. The trigger has been pressed and released at least once per second since the first of
the four trigger pulls.
8.3.6.4. Any person who carries a marker onto the field of play that will fire more than one shot
per press and release of the trigger before the trigger has been pressed and released at least
four times after not having been fired for at least one second will receive a gross penalty and a
minor suspension.

That's complicated.
